How do we work together?
Within our sessions, we look at what is happening for you and work towards what you would like to be different in your life. We do this in a way that feels comfortable for you, and suits you best. Together we use both our expertise. In each session we will evaluate together how things are going for you. This way the therapy is tailored towards your needs. If it appears what we do needs adjustment, then we do that. In this process, I am doing my best to respond to you for who you are, with your knowledge, culture, wisdom and preferred ways of doing things. If it appears that what you need is not a good fit with my expertise or who I am, I will support you in finding someone that is.
What do we work on?
In reality, when we come to counselling sometimes we know what we would like immediately. However, more often we know what we don't want, or we may have a sense that things are not going the right way, or we could be feeling very overwhelmed. This lack of clarity is natural and understandable, and it is fine to come along even if you are not quite sure what it is that you are wanting. I can help you work that out.
How do we do it?
Some methods that I have expertise in using include Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Interactive Drawing Therapy (no drawing skills needed), Mindfulness and Emotionally Focused Therapy for Individuals or Couples. I also use the latest findings in neuroscience and body-mind connections. We can also use ways or methods that you have knowledge and expertise with.
Will it work?
I evaluate my work, and have outcome data on my effectiveness, as well as engaging in deliberate practice to improve what I do. I also have an on-going process of personal development, and actively work on developing cultural awareness and responsiveness.
